Christian Bok and the Xenotext(DNA)!

Christian Bok tries to become a Scientific Poet to be the first one ever in that category. His experimental research is to implant a poem into an organism's
(Deinococcus Radiodurans) DNA , using some biochemical methods. He expects in return that micro organism would reply to his poem by a poem. It means that organism can produce proteins consists of a song and then it can be decoded into english language. Its a nine year long project that still has to be completed.

What I think of this project is if it is completed successfully, that would be a phenomenal success in the history of science and poetry. In the first hand, I wonder how a poet could even come up with an idea like that.
In my view, the poets are people with artistic skills which they use to write poems. But I have never come across a poet who thought to experiment something like Bok did. Its an interesting concept in which he believes to create some microorganism which can produce songs. For me thats simply mind-blowing. I can't even express how I feel about this. Its simply an awesome concept.

  1. I totally agree with you about it being a phenomenal success in the history or science and poetry.

The way technology is coming along is indeed mind blowing and it just makes you wonder what else can poets do with todays technology?

  2. My reaction was similar to yours because I also thought, who on earth would come up with an idea like this!?

Later on, these types of 'artists' will be the ones who really paved the way into even more technologically advanced forms of poetry. I think that in the future we will look back on these types of 'odd' poetry and see them as outdated. This makes you really think about how fast technology is advancing, and the strange things it can do.
